“Vovó” (= Grandmother) is a movement that comes from Lambada. The characteristic of Vovó is, that Leader and Follower are passing while being turned back to back.

In this variation, Salka keeps facing the same direction, while Lorenzo is traveling around her. Let’s break it down into blocks of ‘bum chic chic’:

1. Coming from Lateral, Lorenzo does a Simple Turn to his right, staying in his line, lifting his right arm up and bringing himself into Hammerlock position with his left arm.

2. Lorenzo steps forwards, then crosses Salka’s line on the first ‘chic’ and then steps backwards with the left. This brings him into Hammerlock position with his right arm. Salka does a Basic Step forwards and adds ‘Bebado’ (crossing her left foot over the right).

3. Lorenzo walks backwards around Salka and crosses her line again, while lifting his left arm over her head.

4. Lorenzo turns to his right to untwist his arms.

Followers: For this movement, we need to allow our elbows to get behind the limits of our normal frame. Try to relax your shoulders to allow the Leader to lift and lower your arms.

Leaders: Don’t pull on the Follower’s arms. Their shoulders are in a fragile position during this move.
