Heating and Cooling for Gensets: A Technical Topics Video by Cummins Power Generation

Описание к видео Heating and Cooling for Gensets: A Technical Topics Video by Cummins Power Generation

This video describes the importance of determining the correct ventilation design for a power generation system in order to prevent substandard equipment performance and/or failure issues. The cooling components on a generator from Cummins Power Generation are designed around four primary considerations:

• Keeping combustion are at an ideal temperature
• Cooling air for the alternator
• Removing excess heat from the generator house if the system is enclosed
• Providing air to cool the radiator

Designing the engine and cooling system to work together is a critical element of service life and performance—and a hallmark of Cummins Power Generation. Cummins designers not only consider the temperature rating of the radiator but also how the ratings have been determined and where the system will be installed. Most important, Cummins generators and their respective cooling components are tested with dedicated instruments in a special facility that simulates on-site conditions. As part of the testing process, a Cummins generator will receive two additional tests. One of these is a thermo cycling test to evaluate radiator core resistance to alternating hot and cold environments. The second is an endurance test designed to estimate the system's life span. There is no better alternative to factory testing and no good substitute for engines and radiators that designed to work together from inception. When the engine and radiator system are designed to work together, and properly tested, the chance of failure is reduced and efficient operation is enhanced. Pairing a generator with a loose radiator in the field can lead to unknown risks and problems.
