SMEs Are the Engine of Pakistan’s Growth

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of every economy — and Pakistan is no different.

The Numbers Tell the Story:

•⁠ ⁠SMEs contribute ~40% of Pakistan’s GDP
•⁠ ⁠Employ ~78% of the non-agricultural labor force
•⁠ ⁠Account for 25% of total export earnings (SMEDA data)

Yet, most SMEs remain informal, under-financed, and unable to scale.

What Needs to Change

Our government and private sector must work together to:

•⁠ ⁠Build an environment where SMEs can thrive
•⁠ ⁠Simplify regulations and tax systems for small businesses
•⁠ ⁠Create capital markets & financing avenues so SMEs can raise funds — and eventually go public faster

This doesn’t just help entrepreneurs.
It helps investors find opportunities.
It helps job creation.
And ultimately, it drives economic growth for Pakistan.
