Join us for a hike in the Highlands of Roan, starting at the end of Roaring Creek Rd on the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. We'll climb up the mountain to the junction with the Appalachian Trail - through forest and across high elevation, open Appalachian grassy balds to Little Hump Mountain. Have you ever hiked this way and wondered about the peaks and ridges on this section of the trail? Our hike leader, AmeriCorps member Sarge, takes in the sweeping mountain vistas and ridgeline views, identifying them for you. Along the way, we stop to take a close look at pollinators, lichen, birds, and more -- and discuss habitat protection and management for the declining neotropical migratory Golden-winged Warbler.
