As the snowstorm begins to let up here in the U.S. Midwest, I wanted to re-live a trip I took earlier this year to the Dominican Republic. It was the first time I took my GoPro out to the ocean and I learned a few things that will help me capture better footage in a few months when I head back.

The opening scene is from Playa Alicia, a safe and clean beach a short walk from my Hotel. The reef is a popular tourist destination located a few hundred yards off of Playa Sosua. When you're there, be sure to visit 'Malibu's Bar and Grill'. The owner is originally from Michigan and runs the YouTube Channel 'Whiskey and Rum'.

Sosua is a very popular tourist area not far from Puerta Plata on the Northern coast of the Island. It is a very dangerous place to drive or be a pedestrian. Scooters and motorbikes are everywhere.

In coming pieces, I will share some of the photographs I took on my expedition to Rio San Juan. Getting out of the tourist area was a treat in spite of the language barrier.
