Ah, we love a good 14-second remix in here, don't we? Actually, I think the chord progression in this track is really quite gorgeous. The instrument used for the strings here I actually strongly suspect is actually that standard synth string preset that plays notes in 5ths. Consequently, it creates a lot of interesting quintal harmonies which I am personally quite fond of.
I mentioned this last time, but I still think it's a very interesting tidbit: this track is actually the same as Time Hole to the Past, but stripped down to just the strings and warp sounds. Listen closely to the string parts there and you'll hear it's the same! Consequently, this was by far the easiest track to work on in the entire project, since I just imported those sounds from the Past version, plus the clock sounds from the Title Screen. I just had to do minimal editing to get it to match this version.
I think this might be the first time I've retconned a track name from a previous iteration? In the original upload of this soundtrack, this track was titled "Time Hole to the Future." While perhaps that may be accurate from a relative standpoint, the game does refer to these two eras as the "past" and "present." Plus, other uploads of this track have titled it "to the Present" as well. So I decided it would be more correct to change it here too. For the HD ReMIX projects, I know many tracks have official or more well known names, but at the time of orchestrating the originals, primary sources for the track names were harder to come by, so I just went with more simplified names for everything instead. I decided not to change any track names for the HD ReMIX projects as kind of a tribute to that past decision, making this one of the rare exceptions! Track titles regarding my remixes are something that come up from time to time, so I thought I'd explain that here.
Also, for those of you who watched my "What's Next" video announcing this project, you may have noticed that the very soft synth strings that fade in are actually playing this very track! In fact, the clock sound is also the same as the one in this track as well. I actually hid a whole bunch of subtle clues pointing towards Partners in Time in that video, haha. Why am I telling you all this on this video? Consider it a little treat for reading a super long description that probably takes longer to read than this video lasts, hahaha.
In that spirit, I'll list out all the clues I hid in "What's Next" here, from most to least obvious:
The clock sound is meant to be reminiscent of the clock sounds heard in Partners in Time. This is something people did catch on to!
The key phrase in the description of the video was "back to adventure," which is of course Stuffwell's trademark catchphrase! This is something at least one commenter picked up on as well.
The soft synth strings quietly playing in the background are playing the string parts to this track!
During the fast forward segment, the audio is actually the entire Title Screen track from Partners in Time HD ReMIX, sped up by a large degree! If you slow it down enough you may be able to hear it, though my intention was for that to be garbled enough as to not leak the track early. I am curious if it works or not, as I haven't tried it myself! That was actually the only track I had completed at the time of posting that video... I'm glad I made fast work of the rest!
The marimba notes that occur when the video dates pop up (also a reference to the stickbug meme) are actually ripped straight from the Partners in Time soundfont!
Okay, I think that's everything. If you read all this, why? But also thanks!! This track was a much needed breather, but I'm excited to get to all those great area themes now!
