I hardly regard myself as an expert on any tool of any sort, shape or colour but I was fairly sure I knew my way round my de Walt 3501 bandsaw which I have been using almost daily for nearly thirty years. But when it started to vibrate and cut rather badly I was at a loss. I tried resetting the guide and changing the blade. Nothing. And even my usual bandsaw fix-it trick of increasing the blade tension, which normally does the trick, didn't help.

It occurred to me that the only thing left was replacement of the tyres. Unfortunately I was fairly well convinced that this was not possible with my saw and that night I had very bad dreams of parting with a large sum of money and scrapping away a faithful old friend.

Mercifully I was wrong about the tyres and managed to find replacements, and changing them was no significant trouble. It has improved the performance a good bit but I still have a lot of trouble with saw marks, at any feed rate.
