नवजात शिशुओं की सुनाई जाँच, जिसे Newborn Hearing Screening Test कहा जाता है, एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रक्रिया है जिसका उद्देश्य जन्म के तुरंत बाद शिशुओं में सुनने की क्षमता का आकलन करना है। इससे यह सुनिश्चित होता है कि किसी भी प्रकार की सुनने में समस्या का जल्दी से पता चल सके और उसका समय रहते इलाज किया जा सके। इसमें मुख्यतः दो प्रकार की जाँचें शामिल होती हैं:

1. Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Test:
यह एक सामान्य और व्यापक रूप से इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली जांच है। इसमें एक छोटा उपकरण बच्चे के कान में रखा जाता है, जो हल्की आवाजें उत्पन्न करता है।
इस उपकरण द्वारा कान के अंदर से आने वाली Otoacoustic Emissions (आवाज़ के कंपन) मापी जाती हैं। ये कंपन तब उत्पन्न होती हैं जब कान के अंदर के बाल जैसे सेल (Hair Cells) स्वस्थ होते हैं और आवाज़ का प्रतिक्रिया देते हैं।
यदि यह कंपन या प्रतिक्रियाएँ नहीं मापी जातीं, तो इसका मतलब यह हो सकता है कि शिशु के सुनने की क्षमता में समस्या हो सकती है और आगे की जांच की आवश्यकता है।
2. Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) Test:

यह जांच नवजात शिशु की मस्तिष्क और सुनने की तंत्रिकाओं की प्रतिक्रिया को मापती है।
शिशु के सिर और कान के आसपास छोटे इलेक्ट्रोड लगाए जाते हैं जो मस्तिष्क में होने वाली सुनने की प्रक्रिया को मापते हैं।
नवजात सुनाई जाँच के फायदे:
समय पर पता लगाना: सुनाई में कमी का जल्दी पता चलने से बच्चे के भाषा और बोलने की क्षमता को बेहतर बनाने के उपाय किए जा सकते हैं।
जल्दी उपचार: सुनने में समस्या का पता चलने पर, बच्चे को सहायक उपकरण (जैसे हियरिंग एड) या अन्य उपचार समय रहते मिल सकते हैं।
भविष्य के विकास पर सकारात्मक प्रभाव: सुनाई की समस्या का समय पर इलाज बच्चों के संपूर्ण मानसिक, सामाजिक और शैक्षणिक विकास को प्रभावित करता है।
