Perhaps there’s no more compelling place in the nation to study history than Birmingham. And if you love history, we’d love to see you here. Regardless of your career plans, we want to help you achieve your goals.

Our graduate faculty are active research scholars in a a wide variety of fields. Graduates of our M.A. program currently work at academic presses, local historical museum and monuments, community colleges, and historical archives. Some of them have also gone on to to PhD programs and careers teaching at four-year colleges and universities.

Students completing the MA degree receive a solid grounding in research methods, historical writing, and the scholarly literature in their chosen area of concentration. Our students are a diverse group hailing from throughout Alabama, across the country, and around the world.
