I recently made this one change with my emersed aquarium plant setup and ever since, my aquarium plants have been growing like crazy! In this video I give an update on my ebb and flow emersed aquarium plant setup which I use to grow hundreds of aquarium plants hydroponically.

I recently switched the hydroponic fertilizer that I have been using to grow my aquarium plants. I am now using the Jack's Nutrients 321 hydroponic fertilizer. This hydroponic fertilizer lineup is a dry fertilizer meaning that is needs to be mixed with water with specific steps in order to get the right nutrient profile for your aquarium plants. In this video I go over the specific concentration of nutrients that have been causing really nice growth in my emersed setup.

Asides from being a cheaper fertilizer, the main thing about this fertilizer that I liked was that it does not derive it's nitrogen from urea or ammonia sources, instead it used nitrate sources such as potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate. Both of these dissolve into water and elevate the nitrate concentration, leaving ammonia levels zero. The reason why this is important to me is because I plan on introducing some fish and shrimp into my setup to attempt a polyculture form of aquaponics where we are able to grow freshwater aquarium fish and shrimp alongside the aquarium plants. Before I add any aquarium fish or shrimp to this setup I will have to do some more testing to find the right concentration of nutrients that grows my plants well while not elevating the nitrate concentration to levels that can be harmful to our aquarium inhabitants.
