NGT Cracks Down on Illegal Fly Ash Dumping and Forest Encroachment in Odisha | OA No. 26/2025/EZ
The National Green Tribunal’s Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata, has issued a landmark final order dated 15th July 2025 in OA No. 26/2025/EZ, exposing illegal encroachments, forest land misuse, and the dumping of over 40,000 MT of fly ash near Khalpal Reserve Forest, Dhenkanal, Odisha.

This ruling, delivered by Justice B. Amit Sthalekar (Judicial Member) and Dr. Arun Kumar Verma (Expert Member), directs eviction of encroachers, restoration of Gramya Jungle land, afforestation, and an investigation into hazardous fly ash dumping. The Youth United for Sustainable Environment Trust, represented by advocate Sankar Prasad Pani, brought the issue to light, highlighting administrative inaction and environmental negligence.
