🔄 WHAT ARE POWER OF THE FORCE COINS?
In 1985, Kenner released the “Power of the Force” line of Star Wars figures to reignite interest in the toy line as Return of the Jedi was winding down. These figures came carded with collectible coins, one per figure, making them stand out from previous waves.

Each coin featured:

A character image on one side (sculpted in relief)

Their name and affiliation (Rebel, Imperial, etc.)

A brief character description or tagline on the reverse

They were about the size of a silver dollar, made from a lightweight aluminum or pewter-like alloy, and had a gold, silver, or bronze-colored finish.

💥 WHY DID THEY MATTER?
Kenner was trying to boost lagging sales of Star Wars figures at the time. Kids were moving on, and the hype around the original trilogy had started to fade.

So Kenner introduced these coins as a bonus incentive—a little something extra to collect and a marketing trick to freshen up the toy line.

And for collectors today, the coins are a huge part of what makes the Power of the Force line so collectible, especially since many figures from that wave were short-run or end-of-line releases.

💎 WHICH ONES ARE RARE?
There were 62 coins officially released, and a few additional prototype or unreleased coins that surfaced later. Among the most valuable and rare:

Yak Face – Wasn’t released in the U.S., making both the figure and coin highly sought after.

Anakin Skywalker – Very rare, especially in prototype form.

Prototype or unproduced coins – Like for the Droids and Ewoks figures, or alternate versions of existing coins.

Kenner also released a mail-away coin album, and some coins could be gotten only through that offer.
