Former Kent Chief Constable Mike Fuller advised the 'Strategic Review on Policing’ - which called for the Government to legislate to allow forces to use ‘positive discrimination’ to prioritise the recruitment of Black and ethnic minority officers. Mike, the first Black Chief Constable in the UK, says the measure is a radical idea - but one that is needed.

In the interview, Mike gives his candid reflections on the Review and describes the challenges of decision-making and bringing about cultural change.

During a long and distinguished police career, he commanded Operation Trident in the Metropolitan force before leading Kent Police from 2004 to 2010.

Mike qualified as a barrister while he was at Kent and after he retired from the police took charge of the Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate. He is currently a non-executive director at the Home Office.
