Скачать или смотреть Car buyers 'don't even ask before they order' as price war intensifies in Chinese car market

Car buyers are scrambling for the best bargain as Chinese automaker Dongfeng is offering a hefty 40% discount. The limited-time "biggest car promotion in history" attracts nationwide customers. Buyers can now drive Dongfeng Citroen C6 home at 120,000RMB (17,400USD), saving 80,000RMB.

Eight days into the promotion, the stock was already sold out. Some customers are on the waiting-list as Dongfeng revs up production. Dongfeng says the promotion turned out to be better than expected.

This is seen as part of a ongoing price war in the Chinese car market, possibly triggered by Tesla when the company lowered the price of its products a short while ago. Now the competition is fierce, not only between brands, but also between petrol cars and new energy vehicles. What's more, it is reported that about a dozen provincial governments in China are offering subsidies to both car makers and consumers to drive the prices down even further.
