Rajinder Singh Bedi's story centers around Sunder Lal whose wife Lajwanti is abducted, raped and then bartered back post Partition.
It deals with the moral and social issues facing those families who are now faced with the dilemma of dealing with these women and raises questions whether there is normal life post abduction and rape... in a world dominated by social pressures where fear equates Honor and Respectability with sexual purity.
It also throws light on the unfinished project that our society faces today where rape is often followed by murder due to fear of maximum punishment as against new social and moral norms that facilitate Survivability of the victim, to remain alive and continue to exist should be given precedence over fear of maximum punishment.
