Hello my name is Grant Fritchey and I work for Redgate Software. I'm just reviewing some code that was written by a junior DBA. I’m going through the stuff taking a look at what he's doing and it’s not too bad, although I gotta say you know plnhndl for a variable is irksome. I don't really care for it, it's not clear and I don't understand what that means. plnhndl is not exactly plan handle. Now SQL Prompt actually does a bunch of stuff for us - one of things that it can do is it’ll highlight all these places where this variable is used and it’s used several times and it's just irksome, I just don't
like it. I want some clarity. I want some simple stuff.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to rename all of these but I’m going to rename them all at once. I'm going to right-click after I've highlighted that bit of code and I’m going to do ‘rename alias or variable’. I can now type in ‘plan handle’ which is much more clear and I'm happy because you'll notice every single instance of where that variable was used is now edited. So it's a great way to get stuff done, it's a great way to maintain your code, it makes things a lot easier, it makes getting your code done faster so you can maintain stuff, change things as necessary, update, clear things out, all of it through an automated fashion that you can visually see what's happening inside your server.
