Tamil Nadu politics is witnessing fresh twists and dramatic developments ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The alliance between the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), led by Premalatha Vijayakanth, and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), headed by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has sparked intense political debate across the state.
After maintaining suspense for several months regarding her party’s alliance decision, Premalatha Vijayakanth officially announced DMDK’s partnership with DMK and met Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to mark the occasion. However, what seemed like a smooth alliance has now reportedly entered a phase of internal friction.
According to political sources, DMDK was initially expected to receive 10 Assembly constituencies as part of the seat-sharing agreement. It was also discussed that one of those constituencies would be allocated for Premalatha Vijayakanth to contest. However, recent developments suggest that only 8 constituencies have been allocated to DMDK. Furthermore, reports indicate that Premalatha Vijayakanth requested a specific constituency to contest from, but the DMK leadership allegedly declined the request. This has reportedly led to dissatisfaction within the DMDK camp.
