Hello and welcome back to Piddle In The Marsh and welcome to the new subscribers.
This time I have three era's of freight train running, a Class 24 with Yeoman hoppers, a Class 37 with coal trucks and the new DRS class 68 68034 with a rake of Megafrets.
First to be added was the Scout Camp, Camp Chase De Beaver, on Boxheater Hill complete with camp fire and tents. Did you spot the lone Scout having a Piddle In The bush? I have to thank James Feeke for an amazing paint job on the figures, Well beyond my ability. Thank you James.
Two bus stops were added but they now have the bus stop signs and in Bang'er In The Marsh a waiting lady passenger.
A set of long disused Shell petrol pumps are now located on the edge of the road outside Harold's Larder corner shop and an item which took some finding, a Pallet truck, is in the gate of the farm shop after having placed a pallet of potatoes out front.
The farm house has also grown some sunflowers to add a splash of colour.
You were shown 8 bicycles which are on the layout, did you spot them?
(One for Paul Sheedy, did you spot Burnham serving ice creams? If you haven't seen Paul's "Wickford" have a look it's well worth it).
The big new thing though is the Dapol DRS class 68 (no sound yet, overtime required) and the Dapol Megafrets. The loco really is excellent and packed with detail and has run flawlessly out of the box. The megafrets are another story. The couplings between the sets are so small and fiddly to fit but the wagons kept jumping the rails for no reason. So each axle has been removed, cleaned of the weathering paint, greased, same for the bogies and about 10 grams of weight added to each container, 5g at each end. Then they ran wonderfully. Close fit through the Holes of Whorecum Tunnels though. Next time Dapol please use metal !
