Flying FPV drone from MOVING speed boat? | DJI Avata

Checking something else off my FPV drone bucket list, here is a flight where I piloted my DJI Avata drone from a moving speed boat. As an added bonus, the boat was pulling an inflatable tube (West Marine - The Admiral 3 seater) that was fully loaded with people.


This risky, high-speed FPV drone flight over water was done in full manual mode on a pretty breezy day over the bay. Thankfully the Avata was up to the task and had no trouble keeping up with the speed boat, even while flying into the wind. The drone definitely got wet with a good amount of bay water that was splashing up from the boat and the tube as they were moving across the water, especially while I was flying close toward the end of the run.


Fortunately, the drone seems to be fine and the flight was successful. Time will tell if the water and moisture caused any underlying damage to the drone's internal electronics..
