The storm didn’t just destroy homes — it fractured friendships, routines, and stability. That early trauma later fueled his drive to compete in football, eventually leading him to play college football at Pearl River Community College and East Mississippi Community College, where he played under Coach Buddy Stevens just before the Netflix series Last Chance U began.

After leaving football, Charles chose a harder path: military service. He joined the U.S. Navy, becoming an aviation loadmaster flying missions across the globe on C-130 aircraft, transporting cargo and people to places like Japan, South Korea, Guam, and Papua New Guinea. While the Navy gave him discipline and purpose, Charles reveals the harsh truth about what happens when veterans leave the service. Despite years of service, he faced financial collapse, and job rejection while trying to support his growing family.

At the same time, Charles was navigating unimaginable grief. His father spent 47 days in the hospital before passing away after complications from diabetes and amputation. While grieving, Charles was also betrayed by a business partner, losing his ownership stake in a construction company he helped build — a moment that nearly broke him emotionally and financially.

Today, Charles has rebuilt his life working in construction and roofing, helping families recover after hurricanes and disasters — a fitting mission for someone who once lost everything to one. As a husband and father of three, he now channels his past pain into purpose, raising his children with discipline, love, and unwavering faith in God.

This interview is a raw, honest look at fatherhood, military transition, trauma recovery, and spiritual strength, offering hope to veterans, dads, and anyone rebuilding after life knocks them down.
