In this video I am checking out Harley Benton Enhanced MJ-5EB bass guitar.

I am not usually a bass player by trade, but I own a few basses and recently I have started touring with a large theatre band and part of the show involves me playing bass for a few songs in an acoustic medley. I only owned 4 string basses and needed access to a good 5 string so I asked my buddy Bene at Harley Benton for a recommendation and this is what he recommended.

The Enhanced line is Harley Bentons top spec instruments but it still comes in at under £300 which is remarkable. This bass plays great out the box and I've not changed anything about it since it arrived, it literally came out of the box and straight onto the road with me without any setup tweaks at all.

The bass as an active preamp with a two band EQ, a humbucker Music Man style pickup and a single coil Jazz Bass style pickup. The humbucker is also coil splittable to give you the traditional Jazz bass arrangement and there is a blend control to blend between the two pickups.

In the video I am plugged straight into the Line 6 Helix Rack running an emulation of an Ampeg SVT. The EQ on the Helix is set pretty much straight to midnight to let the bass do the work. The fuzz you hear comes from the JPTR FX Warlow.
