He was a Kurdish Muslim leader who founded the Ayyubid dynasty and ruled over Egypt, Syria, Yemen, and parts of Iraq and Anatolia. He is best known for his victory over the Crusaders in the Battle of Hattin and his recapture of Jerusalem from them. He was respected by both Muslims and Christians for his generosity, justice, and chivalry.
