“Love Theme”

La partitura despliega nueve leitmotiv, desde melodías dinámicas y alegres para acompañar al ejército de esclavos en su entrenamiento, su vida en los vivacs, el reclutamiento en los pueblos, que por momentos remiten al sonido característico del western, hasta pasajes melancólicos y de gran lirismo (la escena de la noche previa a la batalla final), y el bellísimo tema de Varinia (Jean Simmons) la esclava amante y compañera de Espartaco, que juega como identificación del personaje, pero que se convierte en “Love Theme” y en uno de los clásicos indiscutibles de la música de cine, una verdadera leyenda llevada por suntuosas cuerdas y adornada por vientos de madera de una sensibilidad estremecedora.
