Boston Keratoprosthesis: Our technique: CXL the vehicle cornea: Kanellopoulos, MD

Описание к видео Boston Keratoprosthesis: Our technique: CXL the vehicle cornea: Kanellopoulos, MD

We illustrate in this video our innovative technique of using cornea cross-linking in the vehicle cornea used in Boston keratoprosthesis.
This pre-treatment aims to make the vehicle cornea more resistant to cornea proteolysis and melt, a potentially common and severe problem that many Kpro cases may encounter in the early or even late postoperative period.
Vehicle cornea melt can lead to prosthesis extrusion, infection etc.
Our case series of the successful addition of CXL in the Boston (Dohlman) keratoprosthesis as well as ex-vivo laboratory documentation of the benefits to enzyme digestion were published by our team here in Athens, Greece in the Journal of Cornea.
On a personal note I would like to dedicate all this work to the extremely generous tutorship and mentorship of Dr. Claes Dohlman, MD, PhD: the “father” of Cornea and External diseases, as a specialty in the United States the last 50 years, and the “father” of modern keratoprosthesis and its clinical applications. I had the privilege to train and operate under Dr. Dohlman’s me to ship and supervision at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston and perform subsequently the first Kpro in Europe here in Athens, Greece in 1997.
