Beloved, God's Chosen - ELW 648
Text: Susan Palo Cherwien (b. 1953); Music: Robert A. Hobby (b. 1962)
Evangelical Lutheran Worship, 2007

This hymn, although it feels quite contemporary, was written over 20 years ago. Susan Palo Cherwien, who describes herself as a "poet, hymnwriter, and thinker," wrote the lyrics in 1994, and Robert Hobby, a church music director and organist, composer, and active clinician, wrote the music, originally entitled, "Andrew's Song."

Lyrics:
Beloved, God's chosen, put on as a garment
compassion, forgiveness, and goodness of heart.
Above all, before all, let love be your raiment
that binds into one ev'ry dissonant part.

Within, call forth Wisdom, to dwell in you richly;
let peace rule your hearts and that peace be of Christ.
And from the heart's chamber, beloved and holy,
let singing thanksgiving to God ever rise.

Beloved, God's chosen, put on as a garment
compassion, forgiveness, and goodness of heart.
Above all, before all, let love be your raiment
that binds into one ev'ry dissonant part.

Performed by Bailey Slice Parker and Matthew Ganong
