Crib Point - 4k Drone submarines, piers, barges, gas refinery, nature and relaxing music

Crib Point, located near Hastings in Victoria.

While I’m flying, a local and his grandson are looking for sand crabs nearby. He informs his grandson that there’s a submarine on the other side of the pier. I couldn’t see it.
The kid tells him to stop making up stories, I laugh under my breath and joke with Suzy. Turns out, when I start editing the footage, I see there was one!
It’s the HMAS Otama, a former Oberon-class submarine that was decommissioned in late 2000. It was used to spy on the Russians and Chinese throughout Asia. The sub was put up for sale on eBay, but no one bought it. In the end it became part of the local Naval Museum.

The area is important for birdlife, fish breeding and many unique species.
That pier you see in the video snuck in during the 60’s before locals could block BP. Since then locals have fought of 4 attempts from industry to develop the area and are fighting another at the moment.
In 2002, the area was proclaimed a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, one of 701 in the world that are used to test models for balancing conservation and development.
This hasn’t stopped industry from trying to develop the area though. Right now, AGL has a submission in with local government to put in a floating gas storage and reclassification unit on the jetty – requiring 55 km of pipeline to Pakenham.
This is despite the Government of the day being voted in on a platform of resisting AGL's development and the CEO of AGL declaring that one of AGL’s “top strategic priorities” is achieving a “Social Licence”.
