Come along to a hidden corner of Maryland's Eastern Shore, where far from the glitz and glamor of Hollywood and New York City lies an icon of the 20th century. The daughter of a dynasty of Alabama politicians, Tallulah Bankhead rebelled against the stereotype of a genteel Southern belle to scandalize and enthrall audiences for decades. A wit who became part of the renowned "Algonquin Round Table" soon after moving to Manhattan as a teenager, she would go on to be very uncharacteristically honest for her time about her life of alcohol, drugs, and bisexuality. Known for her films like "Lifeboat", Bankhead perhaps became better known for the roles she didn't play, such as those of Bette Davis as Eve Harrington which Bankhead called "All About Me". Tallulah's hard-living ways caught up with her in later years, and she died at age 66 in 1968. She was buried here at St. Paul's (Kent) Episcopal Church in Chestertown, Maryland in a peaceful landscape that is quite a contrast from her tumultuous life. This video shows you how to find her out of the way grave, while also visiting two other notables MLB Player William "Swish" Nicholson and 19th century Congressman James Ricaud.
