(New Up-dated edition also available) 833rd Ordnance Company at Camp Ames Korea from 1968 to 1970. Camp Ames was located at the Village of Chang Dong Ni and located north of the city of Taejeon. The 833rd Ordnance Co was assigned to the Field Army Support Command (FASCOM) of the 8th Army.


We served from Dec 15, 1968 to Jan 22, 1970. In the Maintenance Platoon we were all dedicated Nuclear Weapons Technicians trained by the Defense Atomic Support Agency (DASA) at Sandia Base Alberquerque New Mexico. Some of the guys became professionals, civic leaders, teachers, school principals, writers, movie actors-directors-producers, businessmen, salesmen, business managers, research writers-editors, technical workers, office workers, post man (mailman), policemen, etc, some stayed in the Army for 20 years. A few still comunicate with each other through Internet. Most are now retired. As Milt Keller wrote -'' I served with a bunch of great guys'' - Inspite of the hardship we did what we could to have fun. Just like the soldiers in MASH, TV series about Korean War Medics and the movie Biloxi Blues. We had a great time, it was probally he best time of our lives, mostly because we were so young. After that, you get married, go to work and the excitement of youth is lost in time. -

Note: The 833rd Ordnance Company was deactivated in 1992 and Camp Ames was closed some time after, The Korean Army now has Camp Ames. The 833rd Ordnance Company was later reactivated at Seneca New York. That is where they are now.
