Weyburn Niewoehner was a true pioneer in the beer and can collecting world. He was BCCA member #17 and emptied many of the cans in his vast collection. He was also someone who appreciated and preserved history. As an original stockholder in Dakota Brewing & Malting, which was only in business from 1961-65, he had strong ties to it's product-BEER. But when they closed, he asked permission to remove the cornerstone from the building. In this video, he tells some of the details and planning that went into removing the stone from the building on a Sunday afternoon. He also entered other closed breweries throughout the Midwest.

Because of the foresight and passion of Weyburn, many unique brewery artifacts were preserved. He removed the office clock from Bub's Brewery in Winona, and kept a few items from the Kiewel brewery in Crookston,MN. We were "pen pals" and traders for many years, but when we finally got together in person over a cold beer, Weyburn remembered so many stories from his life as a cowboy, railroad buff, beer collector, funeral director and father. The video quality and sound isn't great, but here is his story (part of it,anyway) of the great "stonenapping" of the Dakota Brewery cornerstone.
