Backstory: Benjamin Max Simon, a millennial Cali-kid turned Marylander, was working his way through the corporate world from 2014 to 2019, making a liveable salary but ultimately feeling unfulfilled. So, inspired by his friends who went abroad, he saved up, bought a one-way to Bangkok, carried two backpacks onto the plane, and a 6-month idea turned into a 10-month mind-blowing, cheap-thrill, perspective-altering adventure.

The pandemic brought him home in 2020. Desperately trying not to go back to the 9-to-5 and with 10 years of freestyle rapping experience in his pocket, he created "Rap the Map", a social media channel dedicated to mixing travel and hip-hop, showing the adventure of (literally and figuratively) freestyling through the country while living out of his car. While on the RTM quest, Ben had a life-changing experience near Mount Rainier, where Mother Nature demanded that he protect her. He responded, with his knees in the Nisqually River silt and tears streaming down his face, that he would dedicate himself to do exactly that. MC Earth was born.

That winter, he spent months creating an album to change the world. "Boss Talk (9-to-5)" is the single off of MC Earth's debut, six-song EP, "This is a Gift", which will inspire humans towards their fullest potential while making sure they take care of their mother (Mother Nature, of course).

This is a Gift EP is out now:

Song Lyrics:
I don't know if you're ready for this
Here we go

This goes for my people that be working right on the 9 to 5
9 to 5, 9 to 5, 9 to 5 (what)
This goes to the people that always feel like they on they grind
On they grind, on they grind, on they grind

If you gettin' paid to be wasting away
Every weekday for that 401k
Time to set the record straight before it's too late
Before we fade away, get buried with our money in the grave
See I was like you with nothin' else to do
Except go and pursue some money for some food
So in Grandpa's suit I strutted in the interview (fresh)
With my resume as proof said "I'm perfect for your group" (yes)
But what I didn't know was nothin' I could see
Thought that I'd open doors with the money as the key
But when you talkin' greed yo nothing as it seems
So if you wanna break free come on here with me, 'cus...

Chorus x2

So you wanna make that 9-to-5 dough? Something you should know
That's these dudes are pros are speaking in a code (Boss Talk)
While putting on a show of seeming in control
The CEO says "bumps in the road", he's the next to go (bye)
'Cus when times get hard look at who's in charge
None of those charts are revealing what's in the dark
Swimming with the sharks just tryna play your part
While your boss is at the bar (hey) with the corporate credit card
He's yapping about strategy, but you know, but you know
That you need the salary, so you go, so you go
Show your face happily, bowin' to your majesty
Never quit the factory or my mom will be mad at me (na na)
This ain't our anatomy, we're pissed off like a bladder
Sittin' at our desk with calories just getting fatter
So I guess that we could all believe that our lives do not matter (no)
But if you wanna fly with me then I be comin' atcha 'cus

Chorus x2

So yeah sure, it felt good to buy some shirts
So I could go and flirt with the receptionist at work (you're so funny)
So sexy, tryna make her legs weak
But I'll be in this spreadsheet 'till next week (damn)
Well weeks turn to months and months into years
And it becomes clear that our dreams die for our careers
Yet we persevere in jobs with collars like dogs
And they profiteer, give us no paid time off
So screw that Boss Talk I'ma save up a few years
And grab a beer over here at the end of the sphere
And as for fear well you hear that death is always near
And it's never clear when your desk is gonna be cleared
But have no fear, come with me, we've never been more free
If you know English fluently then jobs there will be (yeah)
You could quit your job volunteer hostel overseas (yeah)
Just like I did, Earth the MC, now who you be? (sing it)

Chorus x2
