OPERATION SPILLWAY. 447 ft. Final preparations at Whakamaru hydro-electric station ensure that the giant spillways are ready when the torrents of water are released from Lake Taupo. Skin diver Les Subritsky recovers valuable stainless steel bearings from the bottom of the newly formed lake, before the dam gates are raised and the overflow rushes down the spillway.
