In Defense of Jada Pinkett Smith

Описание к видео In Defense of Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith has made a plea on Facebook relating to the trending hashtag #OscarsSoWhite due to the lack of black actors nominated for top awards at the Oscars. The central argument is that African Americans generally get excluded from the Oscars, unless they get nominated and/or win for something degrading or just bad in general. Such as Halle Berry winning for "Monster's Ball" and Denzel Washington winning for "Training Day"

Many people think that Michael B. Jordan should have received a nod for his role in "Creed" especially since Sylvester Stallone received a nod for supporting actor in "Creed." People also think that Will Smith should be recognized for "Concussion" and that Idris Elba should be recognized for his role in "Beasts of No Nation." Many would argue that these are great films and excellent roles, and the only reason why these men are being excluded is because of the fact that they're black.

Let's just, for a moment, say that the Oscars are racist. Let's just imagine that the general pre-conceived notion about them from the black community is correct. What is to be done? Do we institute Affirmative Action when it comes to winning a fictitious award for a millionaire actor's on-screen performance of a fake character? What difference does it make who wins an Oscar, and who does not? Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the best actors of our generation, has never won an Oscar, either. Why? Do you actually care? I most certainly don't.

Larry Whitmore, host of "The Nightly Show with Larry Whitmore" on Comedy Central, did a sketch recently called "The Black Oscars Snubs"... even before the official list of the nominees were released. What is the purpose of this? It reeks of a sense of inferiority and a lack of self esteem. It seems as if the black community chases the white community like a dog chasing a speeding car. When we can just simply get in a car and drive wherever we want without having to follow anyone. It's really sad and it makes us devalue our own awards shows like the BET Awards, the Stellar Awards, and the NAACP Image Awards just to name a few.

In this video, I go a little bit deeper on racial inferiority complex, self sufficiency, and the ability to think about oneself outside of the shielding and housing of another person who is not cognizant of your existence.
