The process by which plants use sunlight, water, carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of glucose.

Mechanism

1) Absorption of sunlight : Pigment chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight.
2) Water and CO2 : Water enters through roots and CO2 through stomata.
3) Splitting of water : Light split water into H2 and Oxygen.
4) Glucose synthesis : H2 and CO2 combine to form Glucose and remaining O2 is liberated

Importance

• It ensures that all living species have access to oxygen in the atmosphere.
• The rate of photosynthesis influence the productivity of agricultural crops.
• It keeps the ecosystem's oxygen and CO2 levels in check.
