Alcides Catacora Pinazo
was born in 1959 in Chucuito, Puno (Peru). He is a visual artist of Aymara origin, recognized for his deep commitment to Andean culture and for being one of the main representatives of contemporary art from Puno. He studied at the "Carlos Baca Flor" School of Art in Arequipa, where he later worked as a teacher and mentor for new generations of artists. His work is characterized by reflecting the collective life of the Altiplano: peasant communities, dances, sikuris, festivities, and also social protests. For this reason, he is known as "the painter of the crowds," since his compositions often depict groups of people in motion, portrayed with strength, color, and dynamism.
Catacora works primarily in watercolor and oil, mastering the light and atmosphere of the Puno landscapes. Through his painting, he seeks to preserve Aymara cultural identity and express the worldview of the Andean people, highlighting the connection between humans and nature. In addition to his artistic production, he has been a cultural promoter in Puno and Arequipa, organizing exhibitions, watercolor contests, and workshops. His career includes exhibitions in Peru and in several countries in the Americas and Europe, earning awards and recognitions, such as at the Titicaca National Painting Biennial.
