More and more mothers are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care throughout pregnancy. Combining chiropractic, informed decision-making, and personalized medical care provides mothers with the best opportunity to have a positive pregnancy experience and easier childbirth. Much of medicine has failed to focus on the specific needs required to fully support the female population and this has remained true in providing care during pregnancy and preparation for childbirth. All too often pain is dismissed as a normal part of pregnancy when it is often one of many warning signs that the body is not functioning optimally. The neuro-biomechanics of the spine and pelvis not only contribute to quality of life but also impacts fetal positioning in pregnancy and the efficiency of the birth process. Understanding and optimizing the neuro-biomechanics of the spine and pelvis is the specialty of Chiropractic. Providing specialized care involves patient education regarding posture and daily movement habits, appropriate strengthening recommendations, personalized chiropractic adjusting protocols for increasing the function of the spine and pelvic joints, and communication between those with the brain and nervous system. In this presentation Dr. Joella Folk, DC, LM will discuss how chiropractic works and why it is impactful on the experience of pregnant women and their childbirth outcomes.
