Сергей Макаров - cоветский хоккеист, правый крайний нападающий. В 1989 году, благодаря открытию «железного занавеса», форвард Сергей Макаров отправился за океан. Первый год в Америке стал для него самым трудным. Признавался, что осваиваться в Национальной Хоккейной Лиге (НХЛ) мешал языковой барьер: «На льду не было проблем. Надо было только научиться играть друг с другом. А вне хоккея было много сложностей из-за языка. Я играл с выдающимися хоккеистами, они-то мне и помогли все наладить». Но все равно, когда закончились игры, уехал домой и лето провел в Челябинске с родителями и друзьями. Брат Николай в это время уже работал в тренерском составе «Трактора», и Сергей с удовольствием участвовал в летних тренировках родной команды, делился с ребятами опытом. Здесь он не чувствовал отчуждения – все гордились, что их земляк добился таких невероятных высот. В то время Сергей Макаров уже стал 11-кратным чемпионом СССР, 8-кратным чемпионом мира и Европы, 12-кратным обладателем Кубка европейских чемпионов, дважды чемпионом зимних Олимпийских игр, игроком одной из лучших команд НХЛ. Земляки верили и гордились спортсменом. Четыре сезона Сергей Михайлович играл за «Калгари Флэймз», который на тот момент был действующим обладателем Кубка Стэнли. В дебютном сезоне забросил 24 шайбы и сделал 62 результативные передачи, получив по итогам сезона приз, который вручается лучшему новичку сезона в лиге – «Колдер Трофи». Стал первым из россиян, получившим этот приз. После завоевания приза 31-летним Макаровым, НХЛ снизила возрастной ценз для обладателей трофея до 26 лет. В 1993–1995 гг. году Макаров надел форму с изображением акулы, перекусывающей пополам хоккейную клюшку, и два года выступал за клуб НХЛ – «Сан-Хосе шаркс». Провел 123 игры, забил 40 шайб. В 1996 году Сергей перешел в команду «Даллас старз» и играл там до 1997 года.
