Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) deals with the offense of using as genuine, forged or counterfeit coin, government stamp, currency-note or bank-note. It specifies that anyone who sells, delivers, buys, receives, or otherwise traffics in such items, knowing or having reason to believe they are forged or counterfeit, can be punished with imprisonment for life or imprisonment up to ten years, and is also liable to a fine.
