Weed Killer Options for Spring Crabgrass Control

Weed killer options for spring crabgrass control are a little complicated. If you spray before crabgrass germination, then things are relatively simply. Apply a pre emergent herbicide such as prodiamine and it works great. Once the weather begins to warm and soil temperatures reach 55 degrees, crabgrass begins to germinate. At this point you can use a product like dimension which can work as both a pre and post emergent for crabgrass. I have started using prodiamine mixed with quinclorac, which is a post emergent for crabgrass. This is still not as effective as using prodiamine before germination, but it gives you a chance to get rid of crabgrass that has already germinated, as well as killing crabgrass that hasn't germinated yet.
