The town, Arimatsu was established in 1608 (Edo period) between Chiryu and Narumi on the Old Tokaido Highway. Arimatsu was designated as Japan Heritage in 2019. The traditional Arimatsu shibori, tie-dyeing of this area is said to have been invented by the first immigrant to the village, Takeda Shokuro. The townscape’s relaxed atmosphere has been preserved, with many tie-dyeing stores and its noren.
