Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray (機動戦士ガンダムSEED ASTRAY) is a side story manga set in the Cosmic Era timeline that takes place concurrently with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. It is the first of the SEED Astray series.

Following their defeat at the Battle of Porta Panama and the loss of their last remaining Mass Driver, the Earth Alliance began planning to retake Victoria Base, which they had lost to ZAFT four months prior.
Earth Alliance deployed considerable numbers of the GAT-01 Strike Dagger against the large ZAFT force stationed at Victoria, intending to overwhelm the enemy entirely. During the battle, Lieutenant Edward Harrelson, piloting his new GAT-X133 Sword Calamity, was given autonomy by his commander, Rondo Gina Sahaku. Edward used his Sword Calamity to destroy many ZAFT mobile suits, including several GINNs, CGUEs and DINNs. In the end, ZAFT was defeat and the Earth Alliance successfully retook the base.
Having reclaimed the Mass Driver, the Earth Alliance re-established their supply line to their Ptolemaeus Lunar Base and began sending resources to reinforce their space forces, along with the new Strike Daggers and their second generation Gundams, the Calamity, Forbidden, and Raider.
