SVANETI, GEORGIA

My travels this year have taken me to Georgia, this beautiful country surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains. This is my journey through the lush green and mountainous region of Svaneti in Northwest Georgia.

Svaneti has spectacular mountain scenery with its deep valleys and wild alpine meadows. The highest peak in Georgia is Mount Shkara standing at 5200m. The Svaneti region has a strong cultural heritage of tribal warriors known as Svans and the imposing watchtowers along the way dominate this landscape.

The highlight of this trip for me was to reach the summit of Mount Lamaris in Ushguili to the viewpoint from where we were able to see Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe and one of the seven summits.
