11th April, 2013, Thursday, Today was the day that Nepal Scouts had waited for almost 3 decades and it was indeed a proud moment for all the scouts when the Rt' Honorable Chairman of the Council of Ministers , Mr. Khil Raj Regmi inaugurated the historical 2nd National Scout Jamboree at Tikaluli, Chitwan, Nepal. The scout gathering boasted of a huge mass of 5368 scouts who came from 59 districts. The service team members of 352 were assigned for the jamboree. Along with Nepalese scouts, scouts and guides from 8 different nations naming India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Finland, America, Malaysia, Japan and Luxembourg participated in the Jamboree.

The jamboree was officially started by the Chief Guest by hoisting the Jamboree Flag. The flying of pigeons as a symbol of "Peace and Harmony" followed afterwards. The scouts from Kathmandu and Chitwan presented a beautiful well synchronized cultural dance which was very entertaining. All the participating scouts did the March past representing their respective counties in the context of the foreign scouts and districts in the case of Nepal.

During the ceremony the Chief Commissioner Mr. Shree Ram Lamichhane emphasized on the scouts' need to be disciplined, good natured, responsible and optimistic citizens of Nepal. The Chief Commissioner reflected on the various difficulties and hurdles Nepal Scouts had to endure to reach this present situation and he commended and congratulated all the scouts for their hard work and dedication in realizing the dream of conducting the National Jamboree. In addition, the Honorable Minister of Youth and sports Mr. Ram Kumar Shrestha and the Chief District Officer of Chitwan gave their individual best wishes for the successful conduction of the jamboree.

The Honorable chairman of the Council of Ministers honored the Second Vice Chairman of Asia Pacific Region, Ms Reiko Suzuki with the prestigious "Rupaula Katush" award who enumerated the message send from the Chairman of APRSC, Mr Choa.

The Finnish Rovers, who are going for the BP Scout Peak Climb tomorrow, 12th April along with Naresh Maharjan of Nepal Scouts, were handed over the Jamboree Flag by Honorable Chief guest.

The representative from the United States of America also presented to Chief Commissioner with a plaque on behalf of the Boys Scouts of America as well as the token of love were presented by some of the foreign nations.

The Rt. Honorable chairman gave an encouraging speech on the necessity of scouting and importance of scout movement regarding the present scenario of Nepal. And the ceremony was concluded by the Vote of thanks from National Secretary Basu Dev Bhandari.

After the vote of thanks the chief guest inspected the camp site and had a brief interaction with the foreign contingent leaders.
