Howdy there neighbors, Ian with etrailer here. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the CURT folding cargo carrier for two inch by two inch receivers. It's a great lightweight option. Looks great on your SUVs, vans, or crossovers. It's gonna be a wonderful option if you need something that's gonna fold up for those tight spaces. Taking a look at the carrier here, as far as the hardware, all of that will come with the kit.

Makes it very easy to install just these 17 millimeter nuts on the back of these carriage bolts. And then there's one larger 24 that's gonna be our swing point for the folding feature. Very easy to get everything lined up, and you're not really having to fight anything. We see that also in our reviews and conversations we've had with neighbors. I will even say with me putting this together this morning only took about 15, 20 minutes.

So very easy to set up to be able to get on there, and get out on the road with all that extra cargo. This carrier is a great option if you're looking for something lightweight. You don't wanna have to store a big gigantic carrier that's got bigger rails and weighs a ton more. This is a nice 40-pound carrier, so very manageable, especially if you've got a lower vehicle like the van is here. It may be difficult with a heavier carrier to get that shank lined up with the receiver.

This carrier's gonna feature this straight shank here. We do have some options for raised shank carriers that are gonna have that sit just a little bit higher, if this one's gonna be too low and be a clearance issue for you. Wanted to mention as well with movement on the carrier, the carrier itself's very, very solid. But there is some movement within the receiver, so you may wanna look at an anti-rattle device that we've got to be able to take that extra play out of there to get any rattle or shake that may vibrate into your cargo. This cargo carrier's gonna be a great option for those extra coolers that you wanna get out of the back of the vehicle, or maybe even a small generator.

Of course, evenly distributed. Does have quite a few attachment points to the edges here. Probably got four on the front, and then the smaller holes, you've got quite a few more of those, but four of these main big holes. Then you've also got two large holes on the sides here. A great feature of this CURT carrier here also is gonna be the folding feature. It's gonna be a great option for once you've got to the campsite or hotel you're gonna be staying at, and you wanna be able to go drive around town and not worry about this as far as when you're parking, or possibly this dragging on the ground in those hillier areas. And you'll be able to fold this up. It's got that nice pin provided with the kit that's gonna that to lock in the upper position here, giving plenty of clearance from the vehicle, and even with that little bit of movement without the anti-rattle, you don't have to worry about that hitting the vehicle, and now you can drive around and park in those tighter spots. Couple measurements to be aware of. From the folded position, the center of the hitch pin hole down to the back of the square tubing for the carrier here is 10 and a half inches. And then measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside of the carrier extended is gonna be 31 inches. A few more measurements to detail. This is a 60-inch carrier, so again, fits nicely on the back of your van. Flush with the edges usually. And then 19 inches, as far as width of our carrier here, and for sidewalls, a comfortable two and a half inches. And in summary, if you're looking for that lightweight carrier that's gonna hold up to 500 pounds, and then be able to fold up against the vehicle, this CURT folding carrier here with the two inch by two inch shank, it's gonna be a great option.
