Paddy Pimblett is spitting venom after his UFC 317 face-off with Ilia Topuria. Newly minted lightweight champion Topuria welcomed Pimblett into the Octagon following his viral knockout over Charles Oliveira in the first round. The two sluggers have a checkered history and now find themselves on the cusp of a lightweight title grudge fight. Reacting to his WWE-style face-off with 'El Matador,' 'The Baddy' admitted he hates the new champion, and essentially plans to torture him if they meet in the Octagon.

Now that former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria punched his way to the lightweight title, who'll be his next opponent has been a hot button topic. Should he face No. 1 contender Arman Tsarukyan? Should he take on No. 4 ranked Justin Gaethje, who says he'll retire if he doesn't get title shot. Perhaps he gets the fight that he wants and is matched up against former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Former bantamweight titleholder Sean O'Malley doesn't think Topuria's first title defense should be against any of the previously mentioned. "Suga" believes "El Matador" should be pitted against Paddy Pimblett.

Paddy Pimblett has questions about the gameplan employed by Charles Oliveira in his UFC 317 lightweight title defeat by Ilia Topuria. The Brazilian submission expert, a former lightweight champion in his own right, was finished by Topuria midway through the first frame at last weekend’s fight card in Las Vegas, as the Georgian-Spaniard became the latest member of the UFC’s two-division champion club after he previously held and relinquished the organisation’s featherweight title. Following a run of 11-straight wins between the summer of 2018 and 2022, Oliveira has now gone 2-3 in his past five — losing by submission to Islam Makhachev, by decision to Arman Tsarukyan and now to Topuria by knockout. And given that he was well aware of Topuria’s strengths in the cage, Paddy Pimblett — a longtime foe of Topuria’s — has some stern questions for Oliveira’s strategy heading into the contest.

Though Ilia Topuria suggested that Paddy Pimblett might not be next following their heated face-off inside the Octagon at UFC 317, there’s no denying that it’s the biggest fight in the lightweight division. ‘The Baddy’ had been linked to a fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 319 next month before Pimblett shut these rumors down. While many of his fellow fighters don’t believe that Pimblett can beat Topuria, this isn’t the way that the Brit and his team see the matchup. In fact, Pimblett believes that he holds one key advantage over ‘El Matador’ which could drastically change how a fight between them plays out. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Paddy Pimblett spoke about his rivalry with Ilia Topuria and what went down at UFC 317.

It didn’t take long for the two men to get intense with one another once Pimblett joined the new lightweight champion inside the Octagon. Their rivalry goes back several years and while ‘The Baddy’ has expressed how much he dislikes Topuria, he still believes that he holds a mental edge over ‘El Matador’. Pimblett referenced Topuria’s reaction when they came face-to-face, claiming that he believes the champion lets his emotions overcome him when they’re in the same vicinity. The lightweight contender believes that the undefeated star’s emotions, and his incredibly high self-confidence, will play a big part when they finally go head-to-head.
