Apple Dumplings - Baked Apple Wraps

2 Granny Smith apples
1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls (8 rolls in tube)
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350°.

Spray an 8 x 8” pan with cooking spray.

Bring water, sugar, and butter to a boil. While this simple syrup is coming to a boil, prepare the apples.

Peel and core the apples. Quarter the apples so that you have eight wedges. Separate the crescent rolls into eight triangles. Wrap one crescent roll around each apple wedge and place in a greased pan. 

Whisk the cinnamon into the simple syrup once it has come to a boil. Then pour the simple syrup over the apple wraps.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Place wraps on small plates and spoon the sauce over them. Top with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

This recipe can easily be doubled to make in a 9 x 13” baking dish.
