Описание к видео Imaging of Viral Encephalitis (part 1): Herpes Simplex and Varicella Zoster

This video is the first in a series on Viral Encephalitis. Herpes Simplex Encephalitis (HSE) is the most frequent sporadic viral encephalitis and accounts for 50-75% of all cases of viral encephalitis. Is there is one type of viral encepalitis every radiologist should be able to recognize immediately, it would be HSE!

Varicella Zoster Virus Vasculopathy is the most frequent cause of pediatric stroke, accounting for 1/3rds of pediatric strokes. There is also a strong association between VZV and cerebellitis, and ~50% of cases of pediatric cerebellitis are associated with VZV. Lastly, VZV can also cause meningo-encephalitis and/or myelitis, but generally presents with non-specific imaging findings.
