"New India": Modi formally elected as leader of NDA, now able to form government

India's Narendra Modi was formally elected on Friday by lawmakers of his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to become prime minister for a third consecutive term and to form the government of the world's largest democratic nation.

""If I keep the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) on one side and, the dreams and expectations of people on the other, then I will say NDA means New India, Developed India and Aspirational India," Modi said.

It is the first time in a decade that Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has needed the support of regional parties to form the government.
