Call of Duty is a WWII first person shooter, released in 2003. Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, it is the first title in a long running series of military games spanning over 50+ years of human conflict.

September 18, 1942 (11:00 HRS)- Volga River, Stalingrad

Two years ago, the Soviet Red Army defended the city of Stalingrad and lost many soldiers in the battle (some to their own machine guns as they retreated). With limited arms, the Russians would send half of it's troops out onto the battlefield unarmed, with only spare ammo for the next man. This is story of one of those men, Private Alexei Ivanovich Voronin, who began the battle of Stalingrad as many other Russian soldiers did that day...armed only with his wits...
