Here is a quick overview of maintaining your above ground fiberglass spa. Never use both Chlorine and Bromine at the same time to sanitize your spa, chose one or the other. I cover sanitizing the spa with Bromine, PH level and Alkalinity in this video.
I prefer to use Bromine mainly because it doesn't have that chemical smell. In a small area such as a spa you can really smell the chlorine as the jets churn the water. It is just as effective as chlorine in killing bacteria.

I also like to keep the PH higher since the fiberglass has very low acid demand. In a normal plaster pool, the acid demand is higher due to the plaster itself so PH tends to drift up and not down. In a fiberglass spa the PH will drift down so I tend to keep it higher. If it gets too high it will then reduce the ability of the sanitizer (chlorine or bromine).

When adding PH UP or Down use small measures such as 1 capful and adjust from there. You can also by Bromine granular to shock the spa, but I simple break up a bromine tablet and broadcast the dust into the spa.

If the Alkalinity gets too low it will cause corrosion in the spa (PH and Alkalinity are tied together so by raising and lowering the PH the Alkalinity will also go up or down). If the Alkalinity is too high then you will have trouble controlling and adjusting the PH. They do sell products that raise and lower the Alkalinity if your levels become a problem. Generally you want it above 80 and below 120.
