Carrots can be a tricky vegetable to grow, but here’s five ways you help achieve success:

1. Plant in wet soil (after a rain is the best).

2. Make sure soil is loose (using a broad fork in lower beds) and/or add perlite to diminish soil compaction.

3. Add vermiculite for water retention (you don’t want these to dry out).

4. Use proper 3-inch spacing for carrots. Some veg you can get away with crowding… carrots, not so much.

5. Cover the seeds with cardboard so they do not dry out and cannot be disturbed until germination. Once plants get a bit bigger, cover with leaves or a light much to retain moisture through their growing season.

BONUS: Try a beneficial Mycorrhizal Root Grow (root-level fungal inoculation)or worm castings to boost nutrient absorption at the root level.
